Disobedient Children

| Deuteronomy 21:18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: |
| 21:19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; |
| 21:20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. |
| 21:21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear. |
The wisdom of the Bible is not to be questioned. Today, our society idolizes the children. They are spoiled, pampered and as a result, disobedient to parents and all authority.
Used to be children worked around the home. AND they didn’t get paid for it. Today’s youth has an entitlement attitude, fueled by TV and other media messages of materialism and consumption. They believe their life is to be one of ease and luxury.
Somewhere we have even bought into the idea that it is the parents responsibility to pay for their child’s college education. No more washing dishes nights to pay for school during the day. Even the few high school kids that work at McDonald’s do it to consume their wages on their wants, not to help support the home that has supported them for 16 years.
And when the parent gets old and can no longer take care of themselves, does the child bring Mom and Dad into their home? No, they shuttle them off to the nursing home.
God knew the reproach a disobedient child had on the family and community. He did not allow for his people to allow such behavior.
We need to return to raising disciplined, obedient children. “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” Proverbs 13: 24
